The renovations are underway and I’m so excited to share where we’re at so far! The first room in the house that I’m working on is the kitchen. Old houses were so walled off before. The original build had a window into the kitchen from the living room, just enough to see some light come through. But I’m thinking we can get more natural light in by bringing that wall down.

At the same time, I’m also updating the floors and windows. The windows are being upgraded to hurricane impact glass for those Florida storms and energy efficiency. I shared the floor demo process on Tiktok and found out there were 2 types of people: people who hate tile and people who hate terrazzo!
I was originally going to go with installing wood-like tile like THIS. But after removing the tiles and seeing the terrazzo underneath, I ultimately decided to go with refinishing the terrazzo. I love the colors in the terrazzo and after getting it polished, it will be nice and bright! Terrazzo was old Florida, but since it’s back to being trendy, I wanted a chance to mix styles and textures with it. I’ll share more on that once it’s complete.
The plan here is to put up a wall partition where the hallway into the bedrooms is to close up the kitchen. I’ll be moving the fridge in front of it and will need to add an electrical outlet and move the pipe over to that new wall. I’m also going to swap the peninsula from the right side over to the left side to have more countertop space by the sink and to be able to add in a dishwasher. Rather than having wall cabinets, I’m just going with open shelving so I’ll have to get creative with storage space.
