DIY Ghost Doormat for just $10!

This is such an easy way to personalize a doormat for your home for any season. But for today… we’re customizing it just in time for Halloween! I got this doormat super cheap from Walmart ($6) along with black and white acrylic paint ($2 each).

In 3 steps, you can make this too!

Turn over the doormat and using chalk, draw your ghost design. I went over it a few times until I got it how I wanted it to look (luckily with chalk you can easily start over!).

Then using a razor, I traced along the chalk outline, making sure to add enough pressure to cut through the rubber. I would put down a cloth to catch the fiber and reduce the clean-up.

After that, is painting and sealing! I chose to draw the outline of the ghost first and then paint inside, but you can’t go wrong with doing it the other way too! I used to be that kid who would color the outline of the characters in a coloring book first then color inside after. I still do apparently! For the outline I used a dot foam brush and then a sponge to color the inside. I chose to just dab the white paint on enough so you can tell it’s white, otherwise it would be too cakey to collect dirt.

Also, a random note about this sponge… I thought it was super cute, until I washed dishes and the black fibers came off of it!! So now it has a new use for me as a craft sponge. 🙂

Lastly, I used Flex Seal to protect the doormat and that’s it!! It’s too cute not to display inside, so I placed it in front of the door leading to the garage.

Tell me what you think! Will you make this?
